Let the result be what it may, I have launched my ship To keel what seas I know not, nor may guess How deep will be that final wilderness Where she shall let her last black anchor slip. Under the fitful stars that gleam and drip Down the dank wall of an enormous sky. Or where the sun stabs like an enemy With burning splinters and I long to die – Or where the cold ghosts cry... Let the result be what it may, I have launched my ship. (c. 1946)
